Otter Live Captioning for Zoom meetings provides real-time captions to make meetings more accessible and easier to follow. Live captions help support participants who are deaf or hard of hearing, non-native speakers, or anyone joining from a noisy environment. This guide explains how to set up Otter Live Captioning, so captions appear during your Zoom meetings.
Getting started: Otter Live Notes must be set up for live captioning to work.
Otter Live Captioning
Make sure you have set up Otter Live Notes before continuing. This is required for Otter to provide live captioning for Zoom meetings.
Note: Zoom’s UI may change over time. Refer to Zoom’s documentation for their most up-to-date steps and screenshots.
- Once Live Notes is set up, start your Zoom meeting as you normally would.
- Click More and choose Show captions.
- Click the captions menu and select Host tools for captions.
- Toggle on Enable manual captioner, then click Copy the API token.
- Open the live Otter conversation. Your live conversation can be found on your Otter homepage. Click on the three-dot menu and paste the API token into the field.
- Click Save.
- Navigate back to your Zoom meeting.
Captions will begin appearing in Zoom as Otter transcribes the meeting.
Note: You may notice a slight delay before captions appear in Zoom. Live captions are based on Otter’s initial speech-to-text processing. After the meeting ends, Otter runs an additional accuracy pass, so final transcripts may differ from the live captions.
