Enterprise administrators can deploy the Otter desktop app across managed macOS and Windows devices using standard installation packages. Otter supports deployment through common Mobile Device Management (MDM) and software deployment solutions and is compatible with enterprise environments that use corporate proxies and virtual desktop infrastructure ( VDI).
Before you begin
Before deploying the Otter desktop app, review the following requirements and recommendations.
Network requirements Required domains and ports for Otter services
Allow outbound HTTPS (TCP port 443) to:

No DNS overrides or /etc/hosts modifications are required.
*.otter.ai rather than only the minimum required domains. This helps ensure compatibility as Otter services evolve.Proxy support Support for enterprise proxy environments and automatic configuration
Beginning with Otter Desktop 1.10.0, the desktop app supports enterprise proxy environments by automatically inheriting your operating system’s proxy configuration, including:
- System proxy
- WPAD
- PAC-configured proxies
No additional configuration is required.
SSL inspection Recommended exclusions for inspected HTTPS and WebSocket traffic
If your organization uses a TLS/SSL inspection solution (such as Zscaler, Netskope, or Palo Alto Networks), we recommend excluding the following domains from inspection:

Connectivity checks How Otter detects internet connectivity and false offline messages
The desktop app performs a lightweight internet connectivity check using:
www.google.comcaptive.apple.comwww.cloudflare.com
These endpoints are only used to determine internet connectivity and are not required for Otter functionality.
If your organization only allows *.otter.ai, the desktop app may incorrectly display a No connection message even though Otter services remain reachable.
To avoid this false offline detection, we recommend allowing outbound access to these connectivity endpoints.

Deploy the Otter desktop app on macOS
Deploy the Otter desktop app across your organization using the signed and notarized PKG installer. The PKG installer supports deployment through common Mobile Device Management (MDM) solutions and automatically upgrades existing installations.

Deploy the Otter desktop app across your organization using the MSI installer. The MSI package is designed for enterprise deployment through software management tools. When deployed using MSI, in-app automatic updates are disabled so administrators manage application updates through their deployment platform.

Citrix Virtual Desktop (VDI) Best practices for deploying Otter in Citrix Virtual Desktop environments
Beginning with Otter Desktop 1.10.0, the desktop app supports Citrix Virtual Desktop (VDI) environments.
For the best recording experience:
- Run both the Otter desktop app and your meeting application within the same Citrix session. Running the meeting application outside the virtual desktop may prevent Otter from capturing all meeting audio.

Which Windows installer should I use?
Use the 64-bit MSI unless your organization requires support for 32-bit Windows devices.
Which installer should I use for managed deployments?
Use the PKG installer for macOS and the MSI installer for Windows when deploying Otter through MDM or other enterprise software deployment tools.
Does the PKG installer support upgrades?
Yes. Deploying a newer PKG upgrades an existing installation.
Does the Windows MSI automatically update?
No. When installed using the MSI package, automatic in-app updates are disabled so your organization can manage updates through its deployment platform.
Does the desktop app support corporate proxies?
Yes. Beginning with Otter Desktop 1.10.0, the desktop app automatically inherits system proxy settings, including WPAD and PAC-configured proxies.
Do I need to allow all *.otter.ai domains?
