Microsoft sign-in issue | "Need admin approval"

One of the ways to sign in to Otter is through Continue with Microsoft. If you or a member of your Workspace is experiencing the error message 'Need admin approval' when signing in through this method, it means consent for the Otter application has not been granted. Please reach out to your Microsoft Entra administrator to resolve this and follow the suggested resolution below.

Note: Otter has no control over Continue with Microsoft access. Only your Microsoft Entra admin can resolve this if you are experiencing the 'Need admin approval' error message.

Grant users permission to consent

The admin of your Microsoft Entra account can enable permissions for users to consent to applications when signing in with their Microsoft account. 

Note: The suggested method below covers one of many policies, settings, or consent flows, but may not work for all organizations. Your organization may have a different flow implemented. Your Microsoft Entra admin will need to evaluate and verify a solution for your organization. Otter has no effect on permissions for Microsoft accounts. 
  1. As an admin, sign in to Microsoft Entra. 
  2. Under Applications, click on Enterprise applications. 
  3. Select Consent and permissions under Security.

  4. Check Allow user consent for apps and click Save.  user consent.png

Users can now sign in to Otter using Continue with Microsoft.

Admin approval

If admin approval is required for your organization, ensure Users can request admin consent to apps they are unable to consent to is toggled to Yes. This will allow users to request admin consent for Otter. 

Note: The Microsoft Entra admin will need to manually approve each request. If you have any questions about that flow, please contact your Microsoft Entra admin. Otter has no effect on permissions for Microsoft accounts.

If the solutions above do not work or can't be implemented for your organization, please reach out to Microsoft Support for further assistance. Otter has no effect on Microsoft permissions and will not be able to provide custom consent flows.
