Otter.ai Live Notes in browser is a Business plan integration for Zoom meeting hosts to enable live transcription for all participants and live note-taking for collaborators. It opens as a web page you can put next to Zoom and you can also send the link to other devices to open.
Note: You will need a Zoom Pro/Business/Enterprise/Education license.
Otter.ai Live Notes in browser requires Zoom settings in both ADMIN and PERSONAL to be set up. If you are not the administrator of your Zoom account, send the instructions below to your administrator for them to complete.

How to pre-approve Otter in the Zoom Marketplace
- Log in to the Zoom Marketplace.
- Navigate to Otter.ai Live Notes in browser.
- Under App permission, make sure ‘Approve use of this app’ is toggled on.
- Select the permissions for users. We recommend All users on this account.
Enable live streaming in Zoom (Admin settings)
- Log in to the Zoom web portal.
- Under Admin on the left navigation menu, expand Account Management.
Note: If you do not see the admin section on the left, you may not be an administrator of your account. Please contact your administrator to complete these steps. - Click Account Settings.
- Click the Meeting tab at the top next to Recording.
- In the menu navigation, click In Meeting (Advanced).
- Scroll down to the Allow live streaming of meetings section.
- Toggle on the Allow live streaming of meetings setting.
- Select the checkbox for Custom Live Streaming Service.
- (optional) Type ‘Managed by Otter.ai’ for the host instructions.
The steps for the administrator of Zoom are now complete.
Zoom Host User (Step B)
Each user who wants Live Notes during their meetings will need to enable the settings below for their Personal settings on Zoom’s side.
Enable live streaming in Zoom (Personal settings)
- Log in to the Zoom web portal.
- Under Personal on the left navigation menu, click Settings.
- Click the Meeting tab at the top next to Recording.
- In the menu navigation, click In Meeting (Advanced).
- Scroll down to the Allow live streaming of meetings section.
- Toggle on the Allow live streaming of meetings setting.
- Select the checkbox for Custom Live Streaming Service.
- (Optional) Type ‘Managed by Otter.ai’ for the host instructions.
The steps for the host user of Zoom are now complete.
Connect your Otter account to Zoom
With all of the Zoom steps completed, you can now connect your Otter account and use Live Notes to capture all your meeting conversations.
Note: You will only be able to connect one Zoom host account per Otter account.
- Log in to Otter.ai.
- On the left navigation menu, click the 3 dots ‘More’ > Apps.
- Click Add next to Otter Live Notes in browser.
- Log in to your Zoom account (if not already logged in) and click Allow at the bottom to authorize the connection between your Otter and Zoom account.
- Click Configuration Guide to review the setup process again and then Test configuration.
- If correctly configured, a ‘Success’ pop-up will appear.
- (optional) If you have already set up all of the settings, you can click the ‘X’ in the top right corner to exit out of the configuration page.
Now that you have Live Notes enabled, whenever you start a Zoom meeting that you are hosting, Otter will immediately start recording your meeting and transcribing it in-real time.
