Microsoft administrators can grant organization-wide permissions for Otter using a Microsoft Entra admin consent link. This allows users to sign in with Microsoft and connect their account without triggering individual approval requests. After permissions are granted, users in the tenant can connect their Microsoft accounts to Otter without encountering permission prompts.

The admin permission link can be customized to request only specific permissions depending on how your organization plans to use Otter.
This is controlled by the scope parameter in the admin permissions URL. Each permission requested by Otter is included as a space-separated value in this parameter. Some organizations prefer to grant only specific permissions depending on how they plan to use Otter.
For example:
- If users only need to connect their Microsoft calendar, administrators can approve only the calendar-related permissions.
- If users will use additional integrations, administrators can approve the full set of permissions.
These permissions can be customized by adjusting the scopes included in the admin consent link.

FAQs & Info
Can I just click ‘Grant admin permissions’ in Entra?
No. Clicking Grant admin consent in Microsoft Entra will not grant all of the permissions required for Otter. To ensure all required permissions are granted, administrators should use the Otter admin permission link.
Do we have full control over who is able to connect their Microsoft account to Otter?
Yes. Administrators have full control over which users can access Otter and connect their Microsoft accounts.
After granting admin permissions, you can configure the Otter enterprise application in Microsoft Entra to require user or group assignment. This allows you to restrict access to only specific users or groups within your organization.
- Users who are assigned to the application will be able to sign in and connect their accounts
- Users who are not assigned will not be able to access Otter or complete the connection
This ensures that access and integrations are fully controlled through your existing Microsoft Entra user and group management.
What if I want to grant only sign-in permissions but block other permissions?
If you prefer to restrict user consent and manage permissions centrally in Microsoft Entra, you can grant only the required sign-in permissions using this link.
Can I remove permissions anytime?
Yes. Administrators can revoke permissions at any time in Microsoft Entra. Go to Enterprise Applications → Otter → Permissions to revoke permissions.
How do I troubleshoot “Approval required” when users connect their Microsoft account?
If users see an “Approval required” message when attempting to sign in with Microsoft or connect their calendar, it typically means your Microsoft Entra tenant requires administrator approval before applications can access organizational data.
- User consent for applications is restricted
- Only verified applications can be approved
- Applications requesting certain permissions require admin approval
👉 An administrator can grant the required permissions for the entire organization using the Otter admin consent link.
Once permissions are granted, users will no longer see the “Approval required” prompt. Users can sign in and connect their Microsoft accounts without additional approval.
Do I need to change any of my existing Microsoft Entra policies or access settings?
No. You do not need to modify your existing Microsoft Entra policies, settings, or approval workflows to use the Otter admin link.
The admin link simply allows a Microsoft Entra administrator to approve the required Otter permissions for the organization. This approval works alongside your existing tenant configuration and does not override your current security policies.
After permissions are granted, administrators can continue to manage access using their existing Entra controls, including:
- User or group assignments
- Conditional Access policies
- Application access settings
If you want to limit who can use Otter within your organization, you can do so by managing group assignments or user access in Microsoft Entra for the Otter enterprise application.
In most cases, administrators can grant permissions using the link and leave all other Entra settings unchanged.
Do I need an Otter account as a Microsoft Entra admin?
No. If you are a Microsoft Entra administrator and are only responsible for granting permissions for Otter, you do not need an Otter account.
You can use the admin consent link to grant the required permissions for your organization directly from Microsoft Entra. Once permissions are approved, users in your organization will be able to sign in to Otter and connect their Microsoft accounts without requiring additional admin approval.
Users not added to the Otter application (AADSTS50105)
If a user is not assigned to the Otter application under Users and groups in Microsoft Entra, they will not be able to sign in or connect their Microsoft calendar.
In this case, users will see an error (such as AADSTS50105) indicating that access to the application is restricted and they should contact their administrator.
To resolve this, an administrator must assign the user or group to the Otter application: Microsoft Entra Admin Center → Enterprise Applications → Otter → Users and groups
This setting allows administrators to maintain full control over which users in the organization are able to access Otter and connect their Microsoft accounts.
