Otter provides a variety of methods to transcribe existing conversation recordings.
Import an audio or video file (recommended)
If you have the audio or video file, you can import (upload) directly to Otter from your computer or mobile device. When you import a file, Otter will process the audio speech and create a transcription. Learn more about importing a file.
Transcribe the conversation playback
If you don't have access to the recorded audio or video file, you can transcribe the conversation playback using Otter.
Recording through Otter web
- Sign in to Otter.
-
Play the conversation audio through your computer speakers and turn up the volume.
Note: Do not use headphones, as your device's microphone will not be able to pick up the audio through the speakers. Learn more about troubleshooting audio issues. -
Using Otter on a web browser on the same computer (recommended) or the mobile app, begin recording the conversation.
When using the Otter mobile app, place your device next to your computer's speaker, and refrain from moving or touching the device to avoid any unnecessary background noise that can affect the transcription accuracy.
Record through the Otter Chrome Extension
For online videos that you want to playback, we recommend using the Otter Chrome Extension to record, as it can capture the internal audio of the browser tab. This provides the benefit of being able to wear headphones and still have extension capture the playback audio without your microphone.
FAQs
Will speaker tagging still apply to existing recordings that are transcribed?
- Speakers will automatically be tagged if the user has previously tagged that speaker before, which generates the speaker identification profile.
- For new speakers or speakers that haven't been tagged previously, please tag the speakers once the transcription has finished processing.
- Once tagged, Otter will be able to identify the speaker and automatically apply the tag in future transcribed recordings.
