The Otter Chrome extension enables meeting hosts and participants to effortlessly transcribe Google Meet and Zoom meetings in real-time.
Set up Otter Chrome extension
- On the Chrome Browser, navigate to the Otter Chrome extension in the web store.
- Click Add to Chrome.
- Review the permissions and click Add extension.
- The Otter Chrome extension is installed.
Using the Otter Chrome extension
Navigate to the Google Meet or Zoom meeting URL page in the browser when the meeting starts. Otter Chrome extension works for both scheduled calendar meetings and ad hoc meetings. Click Add AI Notetaker to add OtterPilot to your meeting.
Auto join all meetings
You can select Enable AI Notetaker to auto-join all other meetings as an option. This will ensure Otter AI Notetaker automatically joins all of your Zoom and Google Meetings scheduled on your calendar without having to manually add Otter each time. You can manage the auto-join setting in Account Settings > Meetings.
Google Meet
- Click on the Google Meet link in the calendar or paste a valid meeting link in the browser URL.
- On the Google Meet page, click on the Otter Chrome extension.
- Click Add AI Notetaker to have your meeting automatically transcribed in real-time. Otter AI Notetaker will join your meeting momentarily.
- Otter AI Notetaker will join as a participant. Review the real-time transcription in the transcript or find the live conversation in My Conversations, through the in-chat links, or through the calendar event.
Open the transcript in Otter
Click Open in App to open the full Otter transcription page. You can add more takeaways, interact with Otter Chat, add images, and more.
Highlight
Click Highlight in the lower right corner of the panel to highlight the last sentence.
Hide or show transcription
Click Hide or Show transcription anytime during the meeting.
Move the panel
Click and drag the panel around using the six dot menu in the upper right corner.
Manually record on your device instead
You can record in your browser instead of sending Otter AI Notetaker to your meeting. Click Record on my device instead. This option is available anytime during the Google Meet if Otter AI Notetaker is not already recording.
Selecting this option will allow you to manually record your meeting through the browser.
You can select My Conversations if you do not want to share the conversation, or you can select a Channel to share to.
Zoom
- Click on the Zoom meeting link in the calendar or paste a valid meeting link in the browser URL.
- On the Zoom meeting launch page, click on the Otter Chrome extension.
- Click Add AI Notetaker to have your meeting automatically transcribed in real-time. Otter AI Notetaker will join your meeting momentarily.
- Otter AI Notetaker will join as a participant. You can find the live transcript of the meeting in My Conversations.
Note: There is no floating transcription panel for Zoom meeting. The floating transcription panel is only for Google Meet. Access your live transcription in My Conversations.

Does the Otter Chrome extension work with Microsoft Teams or Webex?
- The Otter Chrome extension only supports meeting links associated with Zoom or Google Meet at this time
Do I have to use Chrome?
- Yes.
- You will need to use Chrome to utilize the Otter Chrome extension.
Does the Otter Chrome extension support any other languages?
- Yes.
- Otter supports transcribing in Spanish, French, or English (US or UK). Learn more about supported languages.
- Set your language in Account Settings > General before the meeting to transcribe.
- We hope to add more languages in the future.
What should I do if I am experiencing an error with the Otter Chrome extension?

- The floating transcription panel is only available for Google Meet meetings at this time.

Where do I manage the "Enable AI Notetaker to auto join all other meetings" setting?
- You can manage the setting on the pop-up in the extension or you can manage your auto-join settings in Account Settings > Meetings.
