Automatic export Enable automatic exports to Google Drive and control which meetings are included
By default, Google Drive exports are performed manually. If your workspace wants to automatically export conversations to Google Drive, contact your Otter account manager to enable automatic exports.
Once enabled, you’ll have additional settings to control how and which conversations are exported.
Export mode
Choose how conversations are exported to Google Drive:
- Automatic – Automatically export all future conversations, including ad-hoc recordings, imported conversations, Otter Notetaker recordings, and supported meeting platform recordings (such as Zoom, Google Meet, and Microsoft Teams), and mobile.
- Manual – Export conversations individually whenever needed.
Meeting filter
Choose which conversations are automatically exported:
- All meetings – Export every conversation.
- Internal only – Export only meetings where all calendar guests share the same email domain as your workspace.
- External only – Export only meetings that include calendar guests whose email domains differ from your workspace’s domain.
Only the initial version of a conversation is exported automatically. If you edit the transcript, summary, action items, or other conversation content, click Update to manually export the latest version to Google Drive.

Manage your exported conversations in Google Drive Learn where exported conversations are stored and how to organize or move them in Google Drive
When you export a conversation for the first time, Otter automatically creates a folder named Otter.ai Conversations in your connected Google Drive account. All future conversation exports are saved to this folder by default.
You can rename, move, or organize the folder just like any other folder in Google Drive.
FAQS
Can I export past conversations to Google Drive?
Yes. You can manually export any Otter conversation to Google Drive, including conversations created before you connected the Google Drive integration.
Can I export conversations that were shared with me?
Yes. You can export shared conversations if you have Viewer or Collaborator access.
Why is the Export to Google Drive option missing or unavailable?
Make sure you are connected to Google Drive on the Integrations page for the option to show up in the conversation page’s three-dot menu.

How do I restore a previous version of an exported conversation?
Clicking Update replaces the existing exported file in Google Drive with the latest version of your Otter conversation. Any changes you’ve made, such as transcript edits or updated summaries, are included in the new export.
If you need to restore an earlier version, use Google Docs Version History. Keep in mind that restoring a previous version in Google Drive only affects the exported file. It doesn’t restore or update the original Otter conversation. If you want the Otter conversation to match the restored document, you’ll need to manually make those changes in Otter.
Which file formats can I export to Google Drive?
Otter currently supports exporting conversations to Google Drive as:
- Google Docs
- Text (.txt)
Can I rename the Otter.ai Conversations folder?
Yes. You can rename the Otter.ai Conversations folder, and Otter will continue exporting future conversations to the renamed folder.
Can I export images to Google Drive?
No. Images aren’t currently included in Google Drive exports.
To export conversations with images, use the standard Export feature and select DOCX or PDF
Can I bulk export conversations to Google Drive?
No. Bulk exports to Google Drive aren’t supported at this time.
To export a conversation, open it, click the three-dot menu, and select Export to Google Drive.
Can I move the Google Drive folder?
Yes. You can move the Otter.ai Conversations folder to another location in Google Drive. Otter will continue exporting conversations to that folder.
What happens if I delete the Google Drive folder?
If you delete the Otter.ai Conversations folder, Otter automatically creates a new folder with the default name the next time you export a conversation.
Why did my Google Drive export fail?
An export may fail if you change the export file format after a conversation has already been exported.
For example:
- You originally exported the conversation as a Google Doc.
- You changed the export format to Text (.txt).
- You clicked Update.
Because the existing file format no longer matches your export settings, the update can’t overwrite the original file, and the export fails.
Why isn’t my conversation ready to export?
Your conversation must finish processing before it can be exported.
If you see Speech is not yet ready for export, wait until processing is complete and try again. If the issue continues after processing has finished, contact Otter Support.
Do Otter edits automatically update my Google Drive export?
No. Changes you make to a conversation aren’t automatically synced to Google Drive.
After editing a transcript, summary, or other conversation content, click Update to export the latest version to Google Drive.
Can I export conversations to Google Drive from the Otter mobile app?
No. The Google Drive integration is currently available only on the web and desktop versions of Otter.
On the mobile app, you can still export a conversation locally and, if your device supports it, choose Google Drive as the destination using your device’s share menu.
Are there workspace admin controls for Google Drive exports?
No. There are no dedicated workspace admin controls for the Google Drive integration. Each workspace member manages their own Google Drive connection and export settings.
Enterprise workspace admins can, however, hide the Google Drive integration or disable conversation exports for the workspace. When the integration is hidden or exports are disabled, members won’t be able to connect or export conversations to Google Drive.
Can I connect Google Drive for the whole workspace?
No. Each workspace member must connect their own Google Drive at the account level. Workspace admins can’t connect the integration on behalf of all members or for the whole workspace.
