Otter Chat has many features and options you can utilize during the live meeting.
Using Otter Chat
Get started right away with using Otter Chat by mentioning Otter at the beginning of your prompt. You can use one or a combination of the multiple ways to mention Otter.
Ways you can mention Otter
- Mention Otter with @otter (e.g. “@otter draft a follow-up email I can send after this meeting.”).
- Add Otter to the start of the prompt (e.g. “Otter summarize the meeting for me.”).
- Refer to Otter near the beginning of the prompt (e.g. “Hey Otter was I mentioned in this meeting?”, or “Hi Otter what update did Louise provide about the project?”).
Conversation participants will be able to utilize Otter Chat during the meeting; however, only participants with Collaborator permissions will be able to ask Otter Chat questions. Otter Chat will not show on public links. Conversation participants will need to be signed into Otter to view the Otter Chat panel.
- Meeting Viewers can only view questions and responses.
- Meeting Collaborators can view and ask Otter Chat questions.
Meeting Viewers will see the option to input text grayed out. Meeting Viewers can still scroll through and view all questions and responses.
Multiple users can post questions to Otter Chat simultaneously. Otter Chat will respond in chronological order of what question or prompt was received first.
During the live meeting
- Click into the live (shared) conversation.
- Click the Summary → Otter Chat tab in the Takeaways panel on the right side.
- To get started, select any of the suggested prompts or click into the field to begin typing @otter or any of the alternative mentions. Click Enter/Return or the Send icon to submit your prompt to Otter Chat.
Suggested Prompt: @otter Was I mentioned so far in the meeting? - You can ask more questions and build upon past responses. Just @otter or use any of the alternative mentions to continue the conversation.
Post-meeting
All questions and responses generated during the live meeting will be saved. You can continue to ask Otter Chat questions regarding the contents of the meeting.
Interact with other participants
Ask your question not only to Otter Chat, but to your team members as well. You can interact with other participants and converse during the meeting within the Otter Chat panel. Users can reply, as well as mention other participants the conversation is shared with.
Mention
You can mention and notify any participant that the conversation is shared with. Just start typing ‘@’ in the chat field to begin and select the user you want to mention. You can type their first name to filter down the list.
Reply
Hover over any participant question, prompt, or comment, and click Reply to Message icon.
It will tag mention them and you can reply to their message.
You can mention and chat with participants that the conversation is shared with anytime during the meeting or post-meeting. Just start typing ‘@’ and select the participant.
Deleting questions and responses
While Otter Chats are visible to all conversation participants, you can delete any questions and responses that you inputted.
- Hover over the question or response you want to delete and click the 3 dot menu.
- Select Remove question and answer.
Share your Otter Chat responses
Otter Chat responses can easily be shared with others. You have two options to share the response: Copy Message Text or Copy Link to Message.
Copy Message Text
- Hover over the response or question you want to copy.
- Click the Copy Message Text icon.
You can then paste the text into any document, email, social media post, etc.
Copy Link to Message
You can share a link to the Otter Chat message. Users will need to be signed into Otter and have permission to view/collaborate in the conversation in order to view the link.
- Hover over the response or question you want to generate a link for.
- Click the Copy Link to Message icon.
- You can share the link with users.

Otter Chat has a range of benefits when it comes to utilizing AI to generate responses.
Ask follow-up questions
You can ask follow-up questions to tailor the reply to your needs. Some examples:
- @otter Make that longer/shorter
- Hey Otter Add more detail about X
- Otter Add timestamps
- Hi Otter Make the email more casual/formal
Have Otter Chat tell you what meeting speakers have said
- @otter What did Kayla say Rita should bring on Thursday?
- Hey Otter What date did Colby mention we needed to finish the demo by?
- Otter Summarize what Landon spoke about in this meeting.
