During your meeting, you can engage with Otter Chat and ask it questions by mentioning @otter or using any of the alternative mentions. The replies will be based on the meeting content.Â

Asking Otter ChatÂ
Otter Chat is available during the live meeting as well as post-meeting.Â
- Navigate to the conversation.Â
- Click the Otter Chat tab in the Takeaways panel on the right side.
- To get started, select any of the suggested prompts or click into the field to begin typing your own prompt. Mention @otter or any of the alternative mentions to begin typing your prompt.
- Click Enter/Return or the Send icon to submit your prompt to Otter Chat.
- Otter will begin generating a response.
Copy or link the response
Want to use one of the Otter Chat responses in an email or social media post? You can copy the response or create a link to the response.
Interact with other participants
Ask your question not only to Otter Chat, but to your team members as well. You can interact with other participants and converse during the meeting within the Otter Chat panel. Users can reply, as well as mention other participants that the conversation is shared with.
Mention
You can mention and notify any participant that the conversation is shared with. Just start typing â@â in the chat field to begin and select the user you want to mention. You can type their first name to filter down the list.
Reply
Hover over any participant question, prompt, or comment, and click Reply to Message icon.
It will tag mention them and you can reply to their message.

You can mention and chat with participants that the conversation is shared with anytime during the meeting or post-meeting. Just start typing â@â and select the participant.
Delete the question and response.Â
If you need to delete a response or question, click the 3 dots and select Remove question and answer. It will delete both the prompt and answer. Only the user who submitted the question will be able to delete the prompt and response.Â
Otter Chat FAQs
Is Otter Chat available for all plans?Â
Otter Chat is available for all plans. For Basic Free users, there will be a limit of 3 prompts per conversation. All accounts will be opted into Otter Chat, except for accounts on the Enterprise plan. Contact Otter Support Team if you have any questions. Â
Can I ask Otter Chat questions without other participants seeing them?Â
At this time, Otter Chat is visible to all participants. All questions, prompts, and responses will be visible to the conversation participants. You can delete a question and prompt anytime.Â
Conversation participants will be able to view, copy, and generate a link to the response.Â
Do you use 3rd party services for Otter Chat?Â
Otter Chat utilizes a combination of our own internal large language models with different service providers.Â
Does Otter Chat send my data to 3rd parties?Â
Otter only sends your prompts and transcript to 3rd parties if a conversation participant has interacted with Otter Chat by sending a question. No data is sent until a user asks Otter Chat a question.Â
Is my data stored on these 3rd party external providers?Â
No. Data is not stored on any of our 3rd party external providers. The transcript and chat history are passed to external providers when a user asks a question, but it is not stored by them.Â
Is my data stored on Otter?Â
As with Otter transcripts, Otter holds your data in secure cloud storage that achieves the security standards required for our hosted platform and our customersâ needs. Otter does not access your audio recordings unless given explicit consent for troubleshooting specific product support issues and/or the user opts in to contribute data for system improvement. Is my data utilized for training with 3rd party external providers?Â
No. Our 3rd party AI service providers do not train on user data or utilize user data for training purposes.Â
Do Otter Chat responses contain data or information outside of my meeting?
No. Otter Chat answers questions solely based on the provided meeting transcript. The context for answers is limited to the meeting conversation.
