Advanced Otter AI Chat Modes – Help Center

Otter AI Chat offers two response modes — Express and Advanced — designed for different levels of reasoning, integration, and speed. Whether you're looking for quick, high-level answers or in-depth, step-by-step reasoning, you can now switch between modes based on your needs.

Express Mode

Optimized for speed and concise responses.
Focuses on real-time summarization and quick insights from the active meeting.
Ideal for situations where users need fast answers without deep reasoning or cross-meeting context.

Advanced Mode

Delivers deeper, more contextual reasoning by drawing on a broader range of sources. Slightly slower due to its expanded access and analysis capabilities. Takes actions on your behalf, including:

Search – Find information across transcripts, screenshots, and past meetings.
Email & Calendar – Draft emails and schedule meetings.
Action Items – Create and assign follow-up tasks to meeting participants.
Recording Controls – Pause, resume, or stop the Otter AI Notetaker with a simple chat command.
Help – Retrieve relevant support articles from the Otter Help Center.

Tip: On the Enterprise plan, Advanced Mode integrates with CRM systems such as Salesforce for lead and meeting data enrichment. Learn more about using AI Chat Salesforce.

Change AI Chat mode

AI Chat mode can be changed anytime in collapsed or expanded mode.

Note: Changing the AI Chat mode is not yet available on the mobile app.

When querying in Advanced mode, you can click the chain-of-thought drop-down to view the thought process in real-time or to see the steps AI Chat took to generate your answer.
