Easily update and refine the summary after editing the transcript. As you make changes through editing and tagging a speaker, keep it accurate and aligned with your latest revisions through our regenerate summary feature. The Gist, Action Items, and Outline summary will all be updated.Â
Note:Â The Regenerate summary feature is being slowly rolled out to all users. If you do not yet see the feature in your account, continue checking back as the feature will be available soon for all users.Â
Regenerate summary
- Navigate to the conversation.Â
- Update the conversation by editing the transcript or tagging speakers.
Tip: Click Update on the pop-up to immediately regenerate the summary after updating a conversation.Â
- Once you have finished updating the transcript, click on the 3-dot menu in the upper right corner.Â
- Select Regenerate summary.
- The summary will begin regenerating.
- Once finished, the Gist, Action Items, and Outline summary will be regenerated.

Tip:Â Need other types of summary, information, or action items? Ask Otter Chat to generate more. Otter Chat answers will reflect any changes you make to the conversation.Â
FAQs
Can I revert back to a previous summary version if I don't like the new regenerated summary?
- No.Â
- At this time, previous versions are not saved. Once you regenerate a summary, there is no way to revert back to a previous version.Â
- You can continue to update the conversation and regenerate the summary for other versions, or use Otter Chat separately to generate a summary.Â
Can I set it to automatically generate the summary if I edit the transcript or tag speakers?Â
- No.Â
- At this time, you will need to click Regenerate summary each time you want to update the summary with your new changes.Â
Can I regenerate the summary for multiple conversations in bulk?Â
- No.Â
- You will need to regenerate the summary individually for each conversation.Â
Can users with collaborator permission regenerate the summary for shared conversation?Â
- Yes.Â
- Users that have collaborator permission can regenerate the summary in a shared conversation.Â
Can I manually edit the Summary Gist?
- No.Â
- At this time, the Summary Gist cannot be manually edited.Â
- Edit and update the transcript, and then regenerate the summary to update the Summary Gist.Â
Can I manually edit the Summary Action Items?
- Yes.Â
- You can edit and add action items.Â
- Regenerating the summary will also update action items as well.Â
Can I manually edit the Summary Outline?
- No.Â
- At this time, the Summary Outline cannot be manually edited.Â
- Edit and update the transcript, and then regenerate the summary to update the Summary Outline.
