As part of putting you in control of your data and privacy, Otter gives you the ability to permanently delete your account. When your account is deleted, the account details, conversations, and data associated with your account are permanently deleted from Otter’s servers.
- Even after account deletion, we will retain certain limited account information, such as email, solely for accounting and administrative purposes.
- You can't sign in to the account, and you won’t be able to access any data, content, or services that were associated with the account.
- Conversations and other content are permanently deleted.
Before deleting
- Turn off OtterPilot auto-join.
- Disconnect your calendar.
- Export your conversations to a text or audio file to save any conversations you currently need or expect to need.
- If you are on a paid subscription, cancel your paid subscription first. When your account is deleted, the subscription is canceled at the end of the billing cycle.
Delete your account
Depending on your scenario, review the instructions most similar to your scenario.
I have an individual account
If you have your own individual account, follow the instructions below.

(Skip to step 2 if you do not have a Workspace) Verify that you are not part of a Workspace in Workspace > Members. You should only see yourself listed and set as the owner of the Workspace.
Note: If you see other members in the Workspace or are not the Owner, review our I am part of a multi-member Workspace instructions to delete your account. -
(Skip to step 3 if you are on the Basic plan). Verify that your subscription is canceled and expired. You should see Basic (Free) in the lower left corner and Basic set as your current plan in Account Settings > Plan.
Note: You will not be able to delete your account if you have an active subscription. A subscription must be expired before you can proceed with the remaining steps. To forfeit your remaining subscription and to delete your account immediately, contact our Otter Support Team for further assistance. -
Click on your Profile and select Account Settings.

Under the General tab, click on the last option Delete account.

Type in your Otter password. Click Verify and continue.
Note: If you use Google, Microsoft, or Apple sign-in to create your Otter account, verify through your platform credentials. -
Review the pop-up carefully. Click Delete account to proceed with permanently deleting your Otter account.
I am part of a multi-member Workspace
If you are part of a multi-member Workspace, select the option below that best fits your scenario.
I am a member of a paid Workspace
If you are a member of an active paid Workspace, contact your admin to have them delete your account.
- Find the admin’s contact information on the Workspace > Members page, or click Contact on the Account Settings > Plan page to send an email to your admin.
- Have your admin follow instructions to delete your account in our Delete a member from your Workspace article.
I am a member of a free Workspace
Follow the steps below to delete your account.

Verify that the subscription is canceled and expired. You should see Basic (Free) in the lower left corner and Basic set as your current plan in Account Settings > Plan.

Click on your Profile and select Account Settings.

Under the General tab in settings, click on the last option Delete account.

Type in your Otter password. Click Verify and continue.

I am the owner or admin of my Workspace
If you are the owner or admin of a multi member Workspace, follow the instructions below to delete your account and Workspace. You not be able to delete your account until you have removed or deleted the additional members in your Workspace.

If you currently have an active plan, cancel your subscription first. Verify that your subscription is canceled and expired. You should see Basic (Free) in the lower left corner and Basic set as your current plan in Account Settings > Plan.
Note: You will not be able to delete your account if you have an active subscription. A subscription must be expired before you can proceed with the remaining steps. Navigate to Workspace > Members. You must remove or delete all members before being able to delete your account. You will need to Revoke access to the Workspace by either removing them from the Workspace or deleting their account. Learn more about managing the members in your Workspace.
- Remove account from the Workspace - Recommended for any members in your Workspace that will continue to use Otter. Once removed from the Workspace, that user can continue using Otter and purchase their own plan if needed.
- Delete member - Recommended if the member is no longer using Otter and will not need their account any further. This is permanent and irreversible.
Note: You will not be able to delete your account if you have deactivated members in your Workspace. Members must be either removed from the Workspace or deleted. -
Once you are the remaining user in your Workspace, click on your Profile and select Account Settings.

Delete your account on the mobile app
Follow the steps below to delete your account on the mobile android or iOS Otter app. There may be scenarios where you will not be able to delete your account through the mobile app. If you run into any errors, we recommend deleting your account through the steps above on the web browser.

Verify your credentials. Depending on how you originally created your account, verify through the associated method. Tap Verify and continue.

Carefully read through the popup. Tap Delete account permanently to proceed with immediately deleting your account.
Business plan
If you have a Business plan, you will not be able to delete through the mobile app. Tap OK on the mobile popup or contact our Otter Support Team for more assistance.
Admin of multi-seat Workspace
If you are the admin of a multi-seat Workspace, you will need to follow the steps listed in I am the owner or admin of my Workspace. These steps must be completed on a web browser.
FAQs
I don’t see the ‘delete account’ option. How do I find this option?
- If you don’t see the ‘delete account’ option, you may be in a multi-seat paid Workspace.
- Please follow the steps listed in I am part of a multi-member Workspace for more information or to contact your admin.
- If you are the owner/admin of a multi-seat Workspace, in I am the owner or admin of my Workspace.
Can my deleted account be recovered or restored?
- No.
- Once you have deleted your account, it can not be recovered or restored.
What happens to my conversations when my account is deleted?
- When your account is deleted, all of your conversations are permanently deleted as well.
- Deleted conversations are not recoverable.
What happens to the conversations that I've shared with others?
- Any conversations that you've shared with others are permanently deleted.
- They can no longer be accessed by others.
What happens to my subscriptions?
- Any subscriptions that you have subscribed to, including purchases made through Apple or Google Play, are canceled at the end of the billing cycle when you delete your account.
If I delete the mobile app, does it delete my Otter account as well?
- No.
- Deleting the mobile app does not delete your Otter account. You must follow the steps in this article to delete your Otter account.
- Deleting the mobile app does not cancel your Otter subscription.

- No.
